Hypertension (HTN)

Adult systolic-diatolic HTN is defined as a blood pressure (BP) of 140/90 mmHg or greater. Isolated systolic hypertension defined as SBP greater than 160 mmHg and DBP less than 90 mmHg, is an established risk factor for cerebrovascular and ischeamic heart disease. Most HTN patients require lifelong antihypertensive therapy. Depending on the individual clinical situation, varying degrees of nondrug therapy can be advised on the basis that they are effective in lowering BP:
1. Weight reduction
2. Saturated fat intake should be reduced
3. No smoking
4. No alcohol consumption
5. Regular dynamic exercise
4. Sodium restriction.
